QRCKY

Born in southern Virginia during the seventies to a family where art was not practiced or encouraged, Qrcky was drawn instinctively to Chuck Jones' cartoons, Norman Rockwell's work, and Bob Ross' PBS show. Qrcky would try to imitate their art while watching cartoons. Twenty years later and entirely desolated by a bad marriage and subsequent relationships, Qrcky began to paint, reverting to the kinds of self-expression he felt closest to as a child. Finding freedom in his art, Qrcky found his voice by exiling himself away from friends and family. He discovered that under emotional distress and displacement, he was able to focus and paint at his strongest while feeling content and whole.

Qrcky has six years of related work experience, as well as a portfolio of varied accomplishments, including exhibitions and academic achievements. He possesses a strong sense of artistry and forward-thinking that is consistently displayed across all art pieces.

Capable of communicating with clients regarding specifications for customized art pieces, Qrcky continues to push the boundaries of artistic expression, creating work that reflects both his personal journey and his evolving perspective on art.

Artist Statement:

As an artist, I steadfastly believe that art is not merely a luxury but an essential element of our existence. It can chronicle history, enlighten minds, and preserve knowledge for future generations. As such, art is a crucial component of our cultural heritage, a heritage that should be accessible to all. I engage in artistic creation with a profound purpose—safeguarding the historical narratives of those generations who may not be represented in traditional art forms. Through my creative expression, I forge an identity and tell my story. By doing so, I aspire to inspire others to share their unique experiences and collaboratively shape a brighter future for humanity.

One of the most fundamental themes I explore in my art is the unification of communities. Art possesses the remarkable ability to foster connection and facilitate meaningful conversations about history and its enduring impact. Through my creations, I endeavor to establish spaces where individuals can converge, exchange their stories, and discover common ground. My artistic endeavors delve into the interplay between the sensibilities of the Black diaspora and the urban landscapes they inhabit.

While I draw inspiration from esteemed artists such as Kara Walker and Jean-Michel Basquiat, I also find profound influence in the world surrounding me. I am captivated by the sensations of movement, the deconstruction and reassembly of surfaces, and the intricate processes of forgetting and remembering that shape our collective consciousness. Residing in Baltimore, a city steeped in rich history and vibrant culture, I find endless inspiration in its distinctive essence. Through my art, I strive to encapsulate the spirit of this city and the diverse individuals who call it home. In addition, my creations profoundly reflect my identity, heritage, and the encompassing tapestry of culture that envelops me.
